Welcome to the South Africa mission trip blog! Our team of 11 people will start traveling on Friday, November 8th to Paarl Valley, South Africa and return to the US early on Tuesday, November 19th. Our team will work with two South African organizations called Mosaic and Ma's for Wellington.
Mosaic
Mosaic comes alongside families that are caring for two orphans or vulnerable children and provides them with life skills training, job skills training and after school programming for the children in their care.
The team will build one modest (around 900 square feet) brick house for a Mosaic foster family. The house will include three bedrooms, a bathroom and a family living area. The house will have electricity and running water. It will be safe and dry space for a Mosaic family to live in.
We will visit the Mosaic after school program two times to see first hand the talents of the Mosaic children from the talent development piece of the after school program. We will also spend time doing fun craft projects with them.
Ma's for Wellington
A big focus on this trip will be spending time with Ma's for Wellington's Avodah group which is a group for young adults with special abilities. Our team will help decorate and prepare for a Reach for the Stars event on Thursday, November 14th. The Avodah members will get dressed in their Sunday best and will be uplifted and encouraged along with a caregiver at this event.
Our team will also visit Ma's programs for preschool age children at the Mosaic community center. Ma's runs a preschool on Wednesday to Friday mornings. On Tuesday, they run a children's ministry program for younger children that will enter their preschool program the following year.
Team Members
Our team members include Carrie Thurmond-Argro, Eddie Cameron, Herbert Coe, Stephanie Fabian, Joel King, Lynne Kreher, Dick & Vicki Pry, Karyn Ross and Tony & Cammy Brantzeg.
Pray for God to prepare each of our hearts and minds as we prepare to leave in 11 days. Pray for on time flights, safe travels to the US airport and safe travels from the Cape Town airport when we arrive.
